Forschung ist Zukunft

Hallo Leute,

hier ein Brief von vier österreichischen Wissenschaftlern, die sich aktiv für die Zukunft von Wissenschaft und Forschung einsetzen:

Dear colleagues,

More than 6200 people have now signed the petition and we have been invited for a discussion with the Minister of Finance Josef Proell tomorrow (Friday). We will present the petition to him and make a strong stand for science, for all sciences. Maybe you could still mobilize your colleagues, friends, family, etc. to sign the petition so that we can present it as an even bigger outcry from the scientific and student community.

Many of you have also started additional initiatives and wrote letters to the relevant people in government or the newspapers. Every letter and every initiative is important and highly appreciated! Only together will we be taken seriously — only science, good universities and good education guarantee the future of our country. We have also brought the petition to the attention of all members of Parliament and many other people in key positions to get it on the priority list of the politicians.

Our request is that the government should go back to the promised 2.3 billion Euros of the ‘Forschungspfad’. The suggestion and rumors that only certain institutions should get reasonable funding is, in our opinion, not acceptable. We all fight for a culture of good science and a future for scientists and students. We are all in the same boat!

We will keep you updated on the outcome of our meeting and of possible further steps.

Best regards
